Uzbekistan will develop a programme to expand and support the use of renewable energy sources (RES). Uzbekistan will develop a programme to expand and support the use of renewable energy sources (RES). Uzbek energy ministry spokeswoman Elmira Bekmurodova told Trend.
According to the ministry, the plan is to increase the share of renewable energy in the total energy balance of Uzbekistan to 25 percent by 2026, saving about three billion cubic metres of natural gas per year. The installed capacity of solar and wind power plants in Uzbekistan should reach 8,000 megawatts.
As part of a programme to expand and support the use of renewable energy sources, Uzbekistan is constructing eight wind-power stations with a combined installed capacity of 4,000 megawatts.
Bekmurodova said the construction of the other four such stations is scheduled for 2023-2024 in Karakalpakstan and Bukhara and Navoi oblasts, with a total installed capacity of 1,600MW.
In 2025-2026, four Wind Power Plants with a total installed capacity of 2,400 megawatts will be commissioned in Uzbekistan.
In 2023, solar power stations with a total installed capacity of 1,100 megawatts will be commissioned in the Navoi, Jizzakh, Samarkand and Surkhandarya regions of Uzbekistan.
Five solar plants with a combined installed capacity of 900MW will be built in 2024 in Bukhara, Namangan, Khorezm, Kashkadarya and Ferghana oblasts, the Energy Ministry said.
"In 2025-2026, solar photovoltaic power stations with a total installed capacity of 1,800 megawatts will be commissioned in Uzbekistan. By 2030 the total installed capacity of small-scale RES will rise to 1,000 megawatts," Bekmurodova said.
